While industries around the country are shutting down because of the coronavirus, the Foxconn Technology Group is still moving forward with construction and work at its facilities in Mount Pleasant.

On Tuesday, Foxconn issued a statement saying:

鈥淲ith the current public health challenges linked to the coronavirus, Foxconn has applied CDC and State of Wisconsin recommended health and hygiene practices as part of our effort to ensure employee health, safety, and welfare. Foxconn day-to-day operations in Wisconsin remain in effect under company safety protocols and government-advised measures.鈥

It is unclear if any Wisconsin workers are working from home or if Foxconn has abided by Gov. Tony Evers鈥 ban of gatherings of no more than 10 people.

Evers made the announcement on Tuesday that he was banning gatherings of more than 10 people saying, “鈥淥ur top priority at this time is to keep Wisconsinites safe and healthy by reducing the spread of COVID-19, especially for those who are considered high-risk. With limited tests available nationwide and continued community spread, we have to take every precaution to protect ourselves, our families, and our neighbors.鈥

The federal Centers for Disease Control has requested that people remain indoors as much as possible to prevent the spread of the virus.

Gilbane Building Co., the main contractor for the Foxconn campus, has continued with construction on new buildings.

Claude Lois, Foxconn project manager for the Village of Mount Pleasant, was on the Foxconn site Tuesday and said work is continuing.

鈥淭here鈥檚 still 400 plus workers on-site just for Gilbane,鈥 Lois said. 鈥淚 don鈥檛 think it鈥檚 going to affect them at all.鈥

Lois added he believes Gilbane is taking precautions as it relates to the spread of the coronavirus.

鈥淎s far as I know, everyone is still working,鈥 Lois said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 interesting times. Obviously, we never seen this before.鈥
